Gallo is a beautiful campground in the middle of Chaco Canyon. Unfortunately half of it is now closed due to falling rocks, so it becomes a little crowded sometimes. When we were there no water was available but we had been warned by mail and the recreation app so we came prepared with more than enough water. - The park staff was super friendly as always: during the day, while we were hiking, our tent was almost blown away by strong winds. A ranger fixed it with stones and our water canisters so no damage happened - THANK YOU!!! At the visitor center while we were waiting at the parking lot a ranger came out of the building to remind us about a ranger talk at Pueblo Bonito - how nice! Overall, an excellent experience. Want to come back soon!

Chaco is and has always been a wonderful experience for me since visiting the site 20 years ago. It is no wonder the ancient ones were such star gazers, one only need spend the night under the stars there to experience the same sights they did.If you don't experience some sort of spiritual feeling in Chaco, you don't need to be there.

Nice campground. Bathrooms are tidy, so hosts obviously care about what they're doing. It's difficult to get to and can be very windy, so plan your trip accordingly.

The campground itself is fantastic. Spaces are decent spread out, and I was pleasantly surprised that it was accessible to hiking trails and a couple of alcove houses without even having to go into the main park itself. The rangers and camp host do a great job of keeping things tidy, enforcing quiet hours, and generally making the visitor stay a pleasant and memorable experience.

The hiking trails are great and history amazing. Great park volunteers that do great guided hikes. The campground bathrooms did not have hand soap or hot water.
The architect conservator did a wonderful lecture that was a last minute add that was wonderful.

This is a beautiful campground that is free! The Ranger was very nice and informative and everyone at the Visitor's Center was very nice, knowledgeable and helpful. The hike is easy and you get a spectacular view. Highly recommend this place even though it was 10 the night we camped there!

We loved Gallo Campground for many reasons, including: 1. The Campground resident manager was just putting up our sign when we arrived so we got to meet her personally, and she was very nice. 2. The Campground is beautifully situated, against the northern cliff wall at Chaco, and our camping space #26 was right in front of the tiny little Chacoan house. It was beautiful, and only a 1-minute walk from our camp. 3. The bathrooms were great and close by. 4. Our neighbor campers were nice to us and even let us use their bug spray. 5. The campground was convenient to the Visitor Center and all the Great Houses in the canyon. We loved our stay!

The Gallo Campground was a great place to stay to explore Chaco culture and visit the magnificent pueblos and experience the many trails throughout the canyon while providing a place to relax midday before heading back out to do more, while at night being able to enjoy a campfire. The restrooms were kept clean and plenty of camp hosts available almost 24 hours was very helpful. The other guests that were there were very respectful of each other with the campground being mostly silent by 10pm each night, with only the nighttime critters being heard. The location of the campground allowed for a perfect viewing of the sunrise over the ancient canyon as well as the nearly full moon while I was there (early October). The couple of small, farming pueblos at the Gallo Campground, as well as petroglyphs and pictographs scattered about on the rocks, makes it more amazing, especially when thinking of how you are in a place, and amongst a civilization, that is sacred and should be respected and revered.Since this was my first trip to Chaco, the experience was so wonderful that I can't wait to make a return trip and see what I may have missed before.

We were unable to attend due to road washout, and unable to risk travel to the campground. Will try again in dryer weather.

This is a very tight campground if you are pulling a trailer (we were). No fires were being allowed and this changed cooking plans considerably. The entrance road coming in (at least from the south) is out and out awful, which seems a shame because the Chaco ruins are absolutely incredible to actually see. There appears to be no attempt or interest in reopening the part of the campground closed by rockslides, which is also a shame given every site was taken. They did have water, and flush toilets. The Visitors Center had all kinds of spaces set up for exhibits that they didn't even hace (just empty cases). Overall, good experience. It could be improved.

Love this campground - especially in winter when it is empty! It was cold, but beautiful and the heated bathrooms were very clean. Visitor's Center is great and the ruins, trails and whole experience was wonderful.

Campground was tidy. Restrooms clean and heated enough to prevent frozen pipes. Flush toilets. Hand dryer was warm air - not the best during Covid. Only complaint was that drinking water supposedly available at the Visitor Center was not. The yard hydrant was frozen.

A standard NPS campground, with warm bathrooms! It was quite cold. Chaco is of course one of the world's great places.

I highly recommend this place. I have been there twice but if I could have more time I would love to spend more time there. This is a place where you can be connected with nature and forget about problems and the daily stressors of life.

Very quiet campground with great view of the stars. Bathroom was pretty nice, but you won't get a shower there. Would definitely stay in the campground again, but the road to get to Chaco is horrible.

There is no shade! Bring a tarp/umbrella to create shade at the campground.
