The hosts and rangers were very friendly and helpful. The bathrooms with flush toilets were amazingly clean. We are used to back country camping where it is BYOB (bring your own bathroom and pack it out). Flush toilets and sinks for hand washing were clean and such a luxury. The tent site was very comfortable. We were next to the group campsite. The group the first night was loud, inconsiderate and stayed up until after 11:30. The next night there was a group of elementary school age boys. They were delightful and were also in bed by 9:30, like we were. Yay. We will certainly come back if we can ever get a reservation again.

Pros - Park host was great, kept the place up well, with exceptionally clean bathrooms with running water, clean well maintaied roads, trash cans, etc. Enjoyed the petroglyphs panel at camp, and the interpretive sign regarding vandalism. Suggestions for improvements - A communal shade structure somewhere at camp would be nice, as it is a very exposed campground, and the cliffs area with some shade is now roped due to a rockfall. There was a giant ant hill at one of the camping pads with biting ants, and we could have asked to move camp but we just went with it.

I can't imagine why the campground description emphasizes that the camping is primitive, no water available, etc. Gallo has HEATED bathrooms with flushing toilets, running water, a water fountain w bottle filler, etc. It seems well maintained. Only issue was the sandbox tent pad we had was filled with some kind of dirt packed hard as concrete. We had to break it up with a trowel to sleep on it. Love Chaco.

The hosts, Kim and Ken, were very informative, helpful, and friendly! The NOS needs more hosts like them at all the parks!
Thanks for providing a great camping opportunity out among the sites and stars!

Chaco is an incredible place. The beauty of the buildings and their purpose strikes the imagination. Wish we'd had more time to spend. Campground nice and well-kept and a good location.

Recreation.gov had the availabile RV length completely wrong. This is a big deal considering the CG is in high demand and access involves 10 miles of horrendous washboard road. Luckily there had been a cancellation - thanks to the NPS for working with us. NO THANKS to Recreation.gov. Please get your stuff sorted.

The campground can be terrible just to have the privilegeof visiting Chaco. However, the campsites are pretty good especially those at the very end of the loop. Site 7's details were not that accurate; we just fit our 25' RV in requiring a significant overhang.

Wonderful campground with great hosts! I loved staying there and recommend going on at least one of the hikes. They are giving you a taste of the life of the Chacoans of old. In-joy your stay!

Sites were clear of trash (but still have goat head thorns). The bathrooms are clean, heated, and have lights. Camp host was very nice even when they reprimanded someone for driving too fast. Wonderful place to camp!

Julia Garrett the camp host was wonderful and very helpful. We used 2 sites plus the big group site 002. The restrooms needed more attention than they were getting, especially the well-used one next to the groupsite. The other restroom was not so abused by the full campground. Otherwise it was a great experience and we all loved the dark sky with the billions of stars visible. For some of us it was the first time to see an unencumbered Milky Way.

Camp host was super friendly. Star gazing is the best around. Site was clean. Stayed at #7. The picnic table has heat damage and needs to be replaced. Tent boxes need new sand.
The campsites are VERY close to each other. No privacy and the vibe was not friendly from our neighbors.

We stayed at the Gallo Campground at Chaco Canyon just after the monsoon storm that forced the closure of the campground for a couple of days. The campground hosts were excellent. I regret not remembering the name of the woman who was the primary host during our two night stay as she was very conscientious. The campground is a desert environment for sure as there is no shade. Flush toilets in clean restrooms were appreciated. The real attraction is that this is the only reasonable option within a reasonable distance of Chaco Canyon NM. The Chaco Canyon is an amazing mysterious place. The history of the site combined with the incredible dark sky make this a worthwhile visit. A major but perhaps unsolvable problem is the access roads to the Chaco Canyon NM are not good. During monsoon season the access roads are impassable. Even a minor rain event can render the roads impassable even to 4WD. Park rangers were unable to get to stranded vehicles on the south access road. Do not use the south access road unless you have high clearance 4WD and no rains within previous 48 hours. The north road was for all practical purposes destroyed in the late July early August 2021 monsoon. In any other part of the US this road would have been closed until repairs were made. The 4-5 mile section closest to the park boundary is very bad. This situation will be a long term problem as the tribal authority cannot devote resources to maintaining the road given the thousands of square miles the tribe must maintain to provide access to tribal communities. Some kind of arrangement between the tribe and NPS needs to be negotiated to preserve tribal property rights while providing adequate maintenance for that portion of the road into the park.

Due to the intense sun and afternoon winds that make using shade devices difficult, ramadas like those at the campground host's camps would be beneficial throughout the campground.
