I didn't end up going because of the amount of rain in the area. I was advised by park officials to not come the first 2 days, and opted not to come for the last couple of days because of distance/time getting there from my home for only a couple of days. I like to spend 5-7 days there.

The website was a little hard to use- I had to find a space that we fit and it was in a weird location on the website. No map of campground on the website either. The actual camping though was lovely hoping to return sometime and spend more time in Chaco canyon

This was an amazing place. The drive into the park was difficult and hard on the vehicles but we had a Ford Transit Van and it was ok. I don't think a 5th wheel or trailer would do as well. The campground had a nice bathroom, of course, no showers but very clean. There was also a dumping station. The park itself was a wonder. Why don't we ever learn about this in school.

Great night under the stars, wish I would have made it a 2 night stay

This is a terrible campground. the Tent pad was not big enough for the two tents we had. The campsites are so close together we were "camping with strangers " on both sides of our campsite. This campground design is in callous disregard for the quality experience of the campers. The overall site has abundant space to have been designed better.

Camp sites feel pretty crammed together; particularly sites 9, 30, and 31. Otherwise Chaco is very, very cool and the Pueblo Alto trail is a fun option for those looking for a bit of extra adventure.

The camp ground is very nice with water and a rv dump which is not listed as an amenity. Prepare yourself for the trip through the canyon with a stop to the visitor center to familiarize yourself with the park layout and get the various Pueblo booklets to help you learn about the history of the inhabitants. Be sure your prepared for poor road conditions getting to the park it can be rather challenging depending on the vehicle your arriving in.

We didn't get there. The 21 mile rock/dirt road was WAY too much for the suspension of our Rialta. We drove only 7 miles in 45 minutes - faster would have been too hard on the vehicle. We cut our losses and turned around (another 90 minutes in and then 2&1/4 hours to get out). We were very disappointed.

If you're visiting Chaco in the summer beware that this campground has NO SHADE! At all. There's little reprieve throughout the entire park from the sun. We ended up leaving a day early even though we paid for two nights for this reason. I almost suffered heat shock. That being said, the campground was clean. It was wonderful having running water and toilets at the campground. The camp host was friendly and helpful. The tent pad sites were clean and nice.

Camping at Gallo is a must to see Chaco Canyon NHP, as it is a several hour drive from anywhere. Water is available, but bring plenty of containers. There is no shade, so I recommend bringing a tent or awning. The desert climate can bring very cold nights after rather warm days, so bring clothing for warm weather and cold nights. The days tend to be breezy.
A very quiet and mellow campground, usually full and requires reservations. Absolutely no cell service, but I did get email on my phone after walking through the visitor center. It was actually nice to be away from news and phone calls for four days!
Very friendly park employees and volunteers have several tours and programs. Overall, a great campground at a very interesting park.

The campground was in an excellent location with an amazing sunrise and sunset view.

The campground has nice clean toilets and large camping areas for tents or RV’s. I had no issues, however the road to the campground is in terrible condition. 15 plus miles of washboard and several washouts.
BEWARE:Several RV’s arrived with their cabinets emptied onto the floor. My neighbor brought in his Airstream, and one of his cabinets was hanging by a single hinge. He was going to tape all his cabinets shut for the drive out.

Not only are the stars and Heavens the most magical experience, but the campground host is welcoming and helpful as are the staff members at the visitor center. I felt safe and happy.

Bathrooms were very clean and kept stocked. Rangers were very helpful. Campsites were clean and well organized for separation. A note to campers, if you're going to stay up late, giggling and talking, everyone can hear you. Please be respectful of others. Chaco Canyon is a magical place, I could visit there year after year! Cheers and happy camping!
