When we arrived at Gallo, we were greated by the hosts, Norman and Clarice. They spent time with us discussing the campground and the park in general. They were very accomodating and we really appreciated the time they spent with us. The water was turned off, but the park did a great job providing port-a-johns and fresh water. We had a great time hiking and camping at the park. The visitor center was kind and accommodating.

Loved being there and camping out for a night. Love the New Mexico starry sky! And Chaco Canyon is magical! If / when I come back I will stay longer.

It's a great little campground, but the sites are very open and exposed. The camp hosts were great as well as everyone at the Visitor Center.

Exceptionally well taken care of campground with very clean bathrooms. Ranger Gary came by each night and said hello to each guest. Only shade is late in the day, cast from the rocks of the canyon, but otherwise it is quiet and peaceful. Some lean-tos for shade would be a great improvement. Hiked out to Peaco Blanco one morning, moderate to strenous hike that was about 7-8 miles round trip. This was an exceptionally beautiful and moving experience. Spent about one hour at the site with my wife. If you really want to know the spirit of Chacocoan culture, this is the place to go. We were practically the only ones on the trail, seeing only one other person. Please be respectful of indigenous culture and archaeological sites in situ. Coming back next to hike Pueblo Alto.

Nice Spot. Water is available in the mid bathroom sinks. There are no shade structures.

We never reached Chaco Canyon due to conditions on the access roads, which were impassible. We didn't have a bad experience at the campground, we simply never reached it, or the park. It was the top destination on our trip, which was a huge disappointment. Access road from the south was completely inaccessible. Option 2 was a 3+-hour detour to the north access road, which when we called the visitor center, we were told that the last 4 miles of the 30-mile unmaintained, washboard, dirt road with no cell reception through reservation land was also inaccessible. I'm sure the park is beautiful. One day I'll rent a tank so that I can get there.

Chaco Canyon is an absolutely stunning and hugely interesting place. It's imperative that you do a bit of research before coming, esp. about history and Native Americans and how to respect the culture and the land. Gallo Campground: This is a beautiful but quite small and tight campground. Even smaller now that they have closed parts off due to rockfall. As long as people are respectful of each other things will go very well. Here is some advice: use a red flashlight only, since many of us are stargazers and white light will ruin everyone's experience instantly. Don't use any other lights please! Also please don't slam doors as the sound echos off the canyon walls and drives us all nuts. If you are tuned in to the land and sky, this campground will offer a thrilling experience of one of the most beautiful places in the Southwest US.

Great camping at Gallo. Quiet and serene. Stargazing is a must! Spend a couple of days exploring all the hikes, it's worth the stay after the long road in. The road from 550 was mostly good. 3/4 of the way in, it gets rough with washboard gravel road. No AT&T service. Bring all that you will need for your stay, there are no services once you are off the main road, which is 21 miles from the park area.

Took my kids (8&9) in May on the new moon to stargaze after we studied astronomy in school this year. It was a bit cloudy and rained lightly one night so didn't get much stars, but boy was it perfect hiking weather! The campsite had lots of short hikes to explore and the campground was covered in gorgeous desert flowers. The grounds were well kept and clean bathroom with running water. The rangers were friendly and helpful and the boys earned a Jr. Ranger badge which was super fun! Chaco is just a few minutes drive away which made it easy to explore the ruins multiple times. It really was one of my best ever camping trips and we can't wait to go back!

I appreciated the fact that tent campers had a designated area apart from the RVs. I sometimes think I am the last tent camper in the country, but the fact that the Gallo tent area was full proves me wrong.

Gallo campground and Chaco Canyon are an amazing historic and ancient area to explore and learn. The park rangers and staff are well informed and eager to share their knowledge.

I love this spot so much. Of course you are there to use it as a base for exploring Chaco, so I won't bore you with specifics - do it all!The campground is clean and quiet. The bathrooms are immaculate. The facility feels very well maintained. I love it!

Chaco Canyon, is a must see destination for those who are interested in pueblan cultures of the southwest . It is also a place of great natural beauty. You could spend many days here. We liked the campsites at the end of the campground as they sit up against a canyon wall with some ruins.

PDC was a bucket list item for me and I was excited about our 1 night camping experience which was great except for the flies. We camped in Sagebrush and were at battle w/the flies as we woke up, ate breakfast & broke camp. In that campground, we counted two pairs of dumpsters (2 of those 4 had lids damaged to extent that they could not cover the container when closed) which, I believe, accounts for the huge # of flies the counts of which we had NEVER encountered before. We had planned for a leisurely "in camp" morning but, to our great disappointment, had to declare defeat & break camp w/in an hour of waking up.If the dumpster #'s & their state of repair accounts for the fly population (which seems likely), it would make sense to reduce the # and/or locate them in an area not in such close proximity to the camp sites......perhaps as campers exit(?). Whatever "inconvenience" that relocation might create for campers, it pales in comparison to the inconvenience (to say nothing of the unsanitary conditions) created by the fly population. At the very minimum, you should report equipment damage to your service provider & demand that they maintain that equipment w/o excuse. Otherwise.......PDC is among the beautiful places on the planet & we shall return.

Nice campground. I liked that there was a water bottle refill station with chilled/cool water at the restroom! Made it easier to deal with the heat. Enjoyed the short hike up to the top of the cliffs that starts right at the campground as well. But the best hike was going up to Pueblo Alto following part of the Chacoans trail to the top of the cliffs.

Unfortunately, the main road to the Park is a long enduring major washboard quality drive. Services provided by the rangers and others working in the park is exceptional. Gallo campground is great to stay in. Bathroom facilities were good and clean. Camp host was great. Access to water supply was good. Would definitely go back.
