This quaint little campground on the Red River is just two miles out of town. Good fishing and the camp host keep the outhouses clean and the campground quiet at night.

We spent 6 days at fawn lakes with four of our grandchildren. It was a beautiful place to take them for their first camping trip. I only wish the lakes could be repaired to hold water and provide a better fishing and water experience.

I can't stand giving bad reviews and this has nothing to do with the camp hosts. This campground is basically on the highway . We were wedged between the potty and the road and we sacrificed 2 nights paid (as a donation) to Carson Nat'l Forest because one night was entirely too much. It is seemingly pretty and perhaps the tent sites are nice (right by the river which is lovely) but the "lakes" are tiny (to be fair, probably just low right now) and the sidewalk leading there is completely torn up and unusable. This is a last resort campground :(

We had a great camping trip over memorial weekend. We had 6 adults and were able to fit 3 tents three vehicles and we were right on the River. We stayed at campsite 01 and this was one of the best sites on the campground. The bathrooms were the cleanest we have ever seen them over the years and the camp host was very friendly and helpful. The only downside was the ponds were not the best. They are still low on water and overflow from the river is still causing damage. But we were able to catch fish right from our campsite on the river.

Great campground, next to beautiful creek. Close to road but stream was louder than most traffic. Very clean facilities. Wonderful campground hosts! Very helpful and nice.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay. Not terribly hot (topped out at about 80 degrees), but the trees provided a lot of shade. Small campground loop and most spots are fairly close one another. Close to highway 38, but at night the traffic is not bad at all. Traffic will pick up at around 5:30-6:30 am. Camp hosts were nice and helpful. Fishing on the Red River was okay. Really only 4-6 spots to fish along the stretch of the river that flows by the campground (with respect to the water being deep enough for the trout to hang out in) ... so you may have to wait your turn. The Fawn Lakes to the west of the campground are just two near empty and definitely stagnant water holes. Apparently a flood caused damage over a year or so ago and the dam, culverts, walking paths, etc have not been repaired. There is no water flowing in or out of the lakes. A lot of hummingbirds in the area as well as some fat blue birds. A lot of chipmunks and squirrels and they will explore anything you have left out or open. Another fishing option is called Eagle Rock Lake about 8 miles west of the campground on highway 38. If coming from Questa you will pass it on your right, just after leaving town.
