Our first moments at Capitol Reef was to stop for a photo at the sign when you enter the park. A local rancher stopped by and offered to take our picture. We visited for a while and he shared what it was like to be a lifelong rancher in the area. He also shared some of the history. Fruita campground was a wonderful place to stay! It was so clean and all the personnel we came in contact with from the camp host to grounds managers were absolutely lovely! Everyone was friendly and kind. We would stay there again in a moment! We went to Gifford House right when they opened to get pie after finding out all the pies were gone at 1:30 the previous day. The pies did not disappoint! We saw petroglyphs, beautiful scenery and viewpoints, and an abundance of deer. The rains kept us from hiking to Cassidy Arch but gives us a reason to return soon! Overall, this was a less crowded park and very enjoyable!

We camped at the group site in Fruita and were very pleased with the facility. It was well kept and perfect for a group of our size or larger. There was a large beautiful lawn overhung with huge shade trees. Also a covered pavilion for eating and a toilet with running water specific to the group site. Parking was plentiful and the view was incredible. Overall, a great camping experience for us who enjoy that sort of camping.

The visitor center was busy and parking was difficult. Ensure you leave sufficient time to do both.

This is probably our favorite campsite anywhere! We love the large grassy area under the huge shade trees, clean flush toilets, how secluded and private it is, seeing deer roaming through everyday, the views are outstanding, and it’s a 10 minute walk to get fresh pies for breakfast at the Gifford house! Our favorite hike is the sulfer creek trail.

Awsome campsite. Very unique nestled in the fruit trees. Huge grassy lawn area. Private and secluded. Bathrooms were flush with sinks and very clean.

This is an excellent group campground. It is large, has it's own private double pavillion plus a second smaller pavillion (with picnic tables of course), it's own restrooms, a sink for washing dishes, a large parking lot, grass for playing on, many trees for shade, and paved areas for cooking. The views from the site are gorgeous. It's 3 minutes away from one of the best hikes in the park--Cohab Canyon.
In the past, campers were allowed to put up their tents anywhere in the large grassy area. July 2019 we discovered that tent pads had been created around the perimeter of the grass, and campers are no longer allowed to put their tents on the lawn. At first we were disappointed, but later we decided having the grassy field empty made for superior games and just running around for the kids. Our party had 30 people.

Mobile Data Speed Map
#123
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
