Too much litter around the lakeOtherwise it was very pleasant
@EmmyWB667A257E · Camped on Oct 12, 2025
Very nice campsite in front of the lake. Flushing toilets (clean enough) and hot showers (not so clean). Level asphalt parking, sites are private with tree cover and not too close together. Easy to secure a spot in mid-October, lots of available sites and campground is so quiet at night.

Great campground near the lake. No ine at Kiosk but was able to book with the app once I found a spot with service

Friendly staff, clean bathrooms, hot showers. The spots are nice & large, the lake is very accessible.

Lack of signage, speed humps need repainting, cannot see them... campsites could use cupboards or animal boxes. Repair parking pads, many ankle twisters

It was our first time camping at this area and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The spots were amazing. I love that we could just walk right up to the water and sit on the shoreline. Will definitely be returning.

This was my first time going to the lake and it was so sad to see how trashed the area is. A lot of the people there were extremely loud-the family next to me was screaming and cussing at each other for hours, jet skiis buzzing around, crummy edm blasting. Dont go here if youre looking for a relaxing time in nature

Kyen campground [the sign says 'Ky-En'] was a pleasant place to stay for 2 nights. On the north shore of Lake Mendocino, it was relaxing and nicely spread out. Coming in at the end of the season, the campground was also 80% empty, so most campers were spread out. There were ducks and geese at the lakeshore, and many sites had electrical and/or water.If there was a drawback, it is that poison oak is common here, so we constantly had to watch where we were walking. We also camp with 3 cats, and had to keep their leads short enough they wouldn't wander into a patch and bring it back on their fur. The camp host was also pleasant and helpful.

I enjoyed the spot I picked out. For sure I will be returning. It was a pleasant stay for my friends and family. Thank you once again. See you next year.

Camp host was great. Wonderful location. Nice view of lake. Showers and bathrooms ok. Starlink worked at our site.

Like others said, lots of poison oak so be wary. Other than that it was beautiful! Will definitely be coming back!

Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with this campsite and would not recommend it, especially for families. While our site was closer to the water, it was also directly next to the main road that runs through the campground. We arrived after dark, but the next morning it quickly became clear that it didnt feel like the safest place to stay.Many of the vehicles passing through looked run-down, and a few encounters made us uncomfortablefor example, one car slowly drove past our site multiple times while eyeing us and our gear. The restroom near our site also seemed to attract people from outside the campground coming in to use the showers, which added to the uneasy feeling. On top of that, a young couple in a beat-up van spent a lot of time driving and walking around the grounds while loudly arguing with each other. We did drive around to see other sites, and a few off the main road looked somewhat better, but overall the environment just didnt feel secure or family-friendly. Sadly, this isnt a place we would return to or recommend.

Campgrounds was crowded during the weekend and loud boats on Lake Mendocino. Bathroom could have been better maintained. Made the mistake of getting a site right next to road that bisects campground, tho good view of lake and easy to get to bathroom and lake. Made a shift after everyone left on Sunday and got the perfect quiet lakefront site with a cleaner bathroom. Staff exceedingly helpful.

The campgrounds were great and the camp host was super nice and helpful. The lake was a little low and muddy, but we made the best of it and had a great time!

Camp site 14 was great because we were separated from everyone else. The camp site sits on a slope so I would not recommend if you have limitations. The site also isn't the flatest but we made our 6 person tent work on the most level spot. The camp ground overall is very clean. The bathrooms are pretty far apart and pretty far from camp site 14. Showers were hot. The lake is huge and has plenty of beach areas around it to set up. The only down side, as mentioned in another review, is that there is a lot of animal activity down the back side of camp site 14. There is a dry revene that might be home to some large rodents of possibly deer. We never saw them but they were very active at night because we could hear them wrestling with branches and leaves. I just put my ear plugs in and slept like a baby. Will go back for sure.

Totally fine experience. And good views of the lake from our spot. FYI this spot isn't lakeside, it's one back. But it's a clear view and you don't feel cramped, there's lots of space.

The campground was nice. My biggest concern was the lack of camp personnel. Especially when they were needed to enforce the quiet time rules. Many campers continued to make loud noise and music long after 10 pm. It was quite annoying. Campsites are meant for relaxation.

I have always loved this campground. For the price you get a decent sized campsite, and showers and bathrooms. As well as a nice fire pit and water spigots close by. My complaint would be I kind of wish there was more staff, there was nobody at the main gate or anything. Only other complaint would be that the showers were a bit grungy. And I wish there was more bathrooms but fortunately where we stayed it was during the week and not very busy so we got to pick a place close to the bathroom.

Could park multiple cars on this site. A bit uneven surface which makes sleeping an issue.
@MehranSEC2F826 · Camped on Jul 26, 2025 at Campsite #37
No parking spots for this specific site. Also very small relative to other nearby sites.
@SandraL2332707 · Camped on Jul 25, 2025
My campsite had nice views of the lake, the restroom and showers across from my campsite. There was a road that was close to us, so had to keep a close eye on the little ones. I had the worst neighbors, loud, rude and obnoxious (not the campgrounds fault) I will definitely reserve again!

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
