Campsite 99 is a great site and we stayed for three nights. It offers privacy and it is a large space. Lots of room for a trailer and tents with a fire pit and a picnic table. There are showers and flush toilets in the Creek Campground area, an active amphitheater with staff-led presentations for the kids, and a wooded boardwalk trail to the beach. While it is close to Highway 1, we found it to be quiet and very enjoyable.
The big advantage to this campground is the proximity to Hearst Castle, the Piedras Blancas Light Station (reservations needed and highly recommended), and the elephant seals. Another great spot is the WR Hearst SB, which is right across from the entrance to Hearst Castle. Excellent little Marine Center, a beautiful beach, and is close to a nice little sandwich shop. Get some food and enjoy the views from the many picnic tables. We would stay here again.
