Rec.gov/Forest service program for letting the folks rent these facilities is is wonderful. Third time at Barber Flats and twice at Dutch Creek. Its a a little hard to find an opening but worth the effort. The hummingbird battles were new on this trip, & the night sky , caught a few fish just great for the newly retired!

someone set 2 mouse traps ,had dead mice in traps when we arrived and they started to rot in the heat under the sink. .was soo hot in the cabin when its 100* needs pull down shades in the kitchen and bathroom , we brought fans with battery powered jump starter with plug in converters for it also used a blanket to close off living room from heated appliance's , the frig makes the bedroom in back hot ,had turned it off in the heat of the day and turned it back on after it cooled down ,also smells like gas in the bedroom with the frig.. the water made us all have issues so bring a sink filter or bring some water with you .,even boiled water did for coffee and tea. lots of biting flies and gnats' ,tried to eat outside on picnic table and was lots of bees too. Was difficult to climb stairs if you have walking issues but managed walking backwards with a cane down them ,down the road a ways ,turn right of cabin road exit is a flat beach spot for someone like me to go enjoy the water area. lots of utv and motorcycle traffic on weekends ,not too many on week days a few but not a lot ,fs road 376 was narrow and more of a utv trail but is passable but it has little to no turn outs for other vehicles for 7 miles .drove my Altima over it slowly, ,don't recommend it even in a truck , but went to Atlanta ghost town that way , all dirt roads for 68 miles also went to bonanza ghost town for 509adventures

We arrived to find a large generator producing extremely loud noise and poisonous exhaust fumes of carbon monoxide running at cabin that continued for 3 hours. No information at cabin or here on Recreation.gov to inform visitors of what generator is and why it is running. After cancelling our trip and returning home we have since found out that Forest Service runs generator 1 time per week for 3 - 4 hours to charge the well. They typically run on Mondays so our visit on a Thursday finding it running was an anomaly. We requested a refund but was refused by Forest Service Matt Nance. I contacted Forest Service to understand why refund request was denied. Matt Nance noted that visitors understand Forest Service is doing "important stuff" and go about their business with no complaints in 10 years regarding generator running. I have requested of Matt to have Barber Flat Cabin recreation.gov cabin listing updated to include information on the generator as well as having information in cabin that alerts and advises visitors should they find a generator running, why it is running, how long to expect it to run, and to assure visitors that it will be shut down by Forest Service after well is charged.

Instead of double twin beds, there were two futons. Futons are almost never level. Mantles were missing on the propane lights, so we used our own. Other than that, the cabin was as described. Inside better than previous visit, outside getting run down.

The cabin is nice, but it is infested with mice. I trapped 3 mice in two nights. The Forest Service needs to seal up the openings from under the kitchen as that is where the mice seem to be entering, As you try to sleep you hear the mice running around in the kitchen. The other thing to know is that even though it has running water with a toilet and a bath tub, it does not have a shower.

We have rented this cabin many times and it has always been very enjoyable and relaxing. This trip however we were surprised to see that some improvements had been made to the cabin. Fresh paint, new flooring throughout, and even a new toilet! These were much needed and much appreciated improvements that just make an already ideal spot even better.

Nice Cabin with running water and propane cook stove/water heater. Oven pilot would not work. Great shade most of the day. River is close, but steep to get down to. Once down, there is a good sized gravel bar next to the river.
The only downside is a lot of ATV/UTV traffic on the road in front of the cabin causing a lot of dust.
