Love love love this campground!!! What an awesome hidden gem along the BRP. The host is so sweet. The grounds and bathrooms were cleaner than any other campground I’ve been to this year. It’s so peaceful. The sky looked amazing from my site. The sunrise peaks through the trees and makes it feel magical in the morning. So relaxing!

Rocky Knob Campground is situated in a lovely area right on the Blue Ridge Parkway with many hiking opportunities nearby, such as the Rock Castle Gorge Trail that starts just across the parkway, and Buffalo Mountain Nature Preserve maybe 10 miles south. If you walk to the road in the early morning you might very well be lucky enough to see a gorgeous sunrise. There are ample campsites from which to choose and they are spaced nicely apart, without being on top of your neighbor. Having said that, our neighbors on our second night there were on the rowdy side and kept it up until after 11 pm and never got a visit from the campground hosts telling them to tone it down. Not wanting a confrontation, we did our best to ignore them. But this is a risk one takes when camping so it is no reflection on the campground itself. One thing the campground could do to better inform its guests is to state on its website that there is no soap supplied in the bathhouses so you must bring your own. There is also no lighting of any kind at the bathhouse closest to our site (there is at the bathhouse by the host's site). A sky light would help. But any decently prepared camper will have a flashlight and/or lantern. This area of Virginia is beautiful and peaceful and the campground is very easy to find. I will most likely return.
