Had a great time until a large branch cracked and fell destroying my tent. The tree/branch was over the designated tent pad. Thankfully it was mid morning and I wasn’t in it but standing nearby at the picnic table. Lost 2 nights of campsite fees. Also I was really surprised about the apparent lack of maintenance during the winter. Old rotten wood siding falling off the restroom building…with some just lying in the grass. I guess I just expect better in such a popular park.

Peaks of Otter is a beautiful campsite. The tent sites are surrounded by nature, there’s easy access to water faucets, and the restrooms are clean and well maintained. Excellent scenic hiking is a short walk away. I highly recommend ascending one of the peaks. I did the easiest one, which was perfect for the kids, but there are more challenging trails as well. Plan on buying firewood at the camp store in case you can’t gather enough dry logs from around the campsite. Follow the posted guidance about bears, which means storing basically everything in the car overnight. I chose a campsite that requires climbing stairs to move between the car and the site, so I was carrying everything down those stairs after dark. It wasn’t a problem but choose your campsite accordingly if you have difficulty with stairs or slopes.

Great family campground with plenty of space between most sites. Please post quiet hours so those who choose to take noise can be quiet.
Wildlife deer/bear usually keep the campground quiet for folks to enjoy from a distance.
