Such a nice and shaded campground! We had a group of folks and booked multiple sites together, and everyone kept commenting on how nice and quiet it was. All the sites we had were a pretty steep walk from where you parked which was higher up, to the site where you camp down below, and we all slipped at least once or twice. Anyone with mobility issues should be aware of this as it's not obvious from the photos of the sites when booking. There are tons of hikes to do right from the campground, and it's on the Blue Ridge Pkwy, we all rode our motorcycles in and being able to immediately be on the parkway was great. There are bears, and the hosts/camp staff are strict about leaving anything out - be smart and use the bear boxes provided. The restaurant/lodge and camp store are right there, so it's convenient if you forgot something or want to buy wood for the campfire. Will definitely camp here again sometime!

Peaks of Otter is a beautiful campsite area that is well maintained and authentic to mountain car camping. The picnic tables and benches are old and loose, but the rest of the facilities are great. Such a beautiful area.

The drawback here, however, is that the area is highly policed by the Ranger staff and almost to the point of ruining our experience. We rented six sites that could hold four people each (24 total) all in a row - however, we only brought 18 people which is less than the capacity we could have used. The rangers were sassy and sarcastic to our group on a number of occasions as we asked them questions at the check in booth or when they rode around on golf carts. Many of the sites had room for two parking spaces, and both the website and our emails confirmed that some spaces would allow two cars, but one ranger in particular made it her mission to harass us over this and insisted we could only have one car per site (6 cars total.) I don't know if you've ever tried to organize a large campout for up to 24 people, but 6 cars won't cut it as people come and go over the weekend. What was the big deal when there was clearly enough space for two cars per site??

We also received comments from the Rangers of "Oh you are with the _____ party? Figures ... ", implying that we were unruly campers or something just because it was a large party. A lot of eye rolling. Yes, one tent was set up off the pad instead of the pad, but that's about the only small violation I can think of. We respected quiet hours, put our food in the bear boxes overnight and cleaned up all our trash daily. We did not deserve the sarcastic treatment and likely won't be back to this specific site.
