A park ranger chased down my elderly uncle who had inadvertently gone the wrong way on a one-way road. This was pretty stupid since he had found us, realized his mistake and turned around to go the right way. By the same token, there was a really loud argument that went on until about 2AM and the rangers were no where to be found.
Parking is ridiculous, tent sites have one parking slot, "overflow" parking is limited to four cars in front of the bathhouses. There's simply no reason not to have an overflow parking lot.
The National Park Service does a crappy job managing campgrounds and this one is no different. Will not return.
However, we encountered two serious problems while camping at the Linville Falls National Park Service Campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. I'm writing in the hope that these problems could be addressed to make camping a pleasant vacation for future visitors.
1) The bathrooms at the campground were completely disgusting. They obviously had not been clean in weeks. Now I understand why most of the campers had RVs or trailers with their own bathrooms. This situation makes it unlikely we will return to this NPS campground.
2) Directions to the campsite we none existent at your site, and the Blue Ridge Parkway signage only added to confusion. There is a detour on the Parkway. The signage tells all drivers to exit the Parkway. Once you leave the parkway there are no other signs to indicate the direction of the detour. Turns out to get to the camp site you have to ignore the detour signs and continue on the parkway to the campground. We spent at least 2 hours driving in circles and finally got directions from a local commercial campground staff. We suggest you send detailed and current directions to campers who make reservations, AND have clear directions on the campsite website WITH a phone number to the campsite -- NOT the 1-800 number. The people at the 1-800 have no knowledged of the detour.
I hope these problems can be rectified quickly since it effects campers every day.
