The campground host was very helpful. When we lost power to our RV, he offered to charge our batteries and loan us a propane bottle for the night so we would have heat and prepare a hot meal. It is not often that a camp host at a national park is that caring about the campers. His friendliness made our stay very enjoyable, The RV sites are mostly level and their are plenty of first come sites. The only down side is the campground is in need of maintenance and repair. Currently the Parkway is closed north and south of Doughton Park due to paving the Parkway. The closure makes it a 45 minute to one hour detour to rejoin the parkway. Hopefully the paving project is only a start in the updating of this national treasure.

due to construction on the parkway, it was hard to find the park. Signs on the detour were lacking as myself and another couple got lost going north at the US221/SR 16 turn off. A sign NEEDS to be put there to take SR 16. Also no signs tell you to take SR18 back to the BRP to go north or to Doughton Park.
As for the campsite, it was okay. A grass cutting would have been nice to reduce ticks.

This is the most beautiful and peaceful campground. Sites and surroundings are clean and well kept. The campground hosts are the best. They are knowledgable, friendly and so very helpful. Do not pass this beautiful park by. It may not have electricity, but the peace and beauty will make you forget you ever needed it. There are beautiful hiking trails within the park, excellent rangers that provide help and educational programs. It is one of our favorite parks to which we will return many times.

We love staying in the RV section (and across the road if we are tenting), and this year we encountered new campground hosts. They were very friendly and welcoming. The campground, including bathhouses, is always very clean and cared for. This stay, we took a side trip to the Yadkin Valley wine country, as we are wine club members with one of the vineyards. Love the wine area of western North Carolina. Sparta is closest small town if campers have forgotten anything. There is a large grocery store in Sparta. Also, the Blue Ridge Music Center is well worth a visit, just north in VA.
