Amazing camp staff and even more amazing location, two miles from Mount Rushmore, 25 minutes from the town of Custer and Custer State Park, and located on infamous route 16A. Large, shaded sites with very good cell reception.

Right in the middle of everything you want to see in the Black Hills, but you feel like you are miles away. The campground and campers are very quiet and there is a nice hike to a waterfall. It's true that the helicopter tours of Mt. Rushmore go over frequently, but it didn't affect our enjoyment of camping. There is also decent cell phone coverage. We camped in our van in site #12 and it was very level. I wish we didn't live halfway across the country or we would come back here often.

I am from Georgia, so South Dakota was quite different! The campsite was amazing! The little Creek running behind the sights were fun! If you climb the mountain in front of the campground (took us less than an hour but only because it was so steep,) you get a surprise Mount Rushmore view! It was beautiful! The camp host was amazing! He was very friendly, helpful, and kept everything clean! The only complaint I have is the toilets. GROSS! Don't get me wrong, they were always clean, spotless clean! The smell was terrible. They are pumped every other day, the smell actually woke me from sleep. We tried to escape the smell by walking down to the creek, it helped until they pumped the next two vault toilets. Those things are disgusting. Overall, the place was amazing! Vault toilets aside (apparently vault toilets are a thing in the North West.)
