The camp host was very rude. I HAD a reservation for the site for the night. He wasn't at his site when I arrived (the site also didn't have a camp host sign either) so I set up my tent and got my gear out. He still wasn't at his site when I finished so I went for a drive. Came back a couple hours later and he was finally there but before I could even get out of my car, he came over yelling at me that I needed to check in with him before I set up. I proceeded to calmly tell him that I had a reservation for that site for that night, but he kept yelling at me that I wasn't supposed to set up at all until I talked to him. I tried to tell him that he wasn't there when I arrived, but he kept saying that that didn't matter and he continued to yell at me as I was explaining that he wasn't anywhere in the campground to do the actual check in, and that I for sure had a reservation for that night and that I would be over to confirm my reservation when I got out of my car. He did the same thing to a family that arrived about 9pm, yelling at them for not checking with him first before they set up- mind you this campground has like 15 sites and it's 9pm at night and there's only 3 other tents/campers in the campground.

A very nice campground with a relaxing creek running just to the east of the campground. The only real issue that I had was some loud people. People I’m well aware that the noise restrictions are not really enforced until 10 PM typically at these camps. People still need to be respectful and mindful of how loud they are. People go to these places for isolation and peace and quiet typically. People need to be mindful of the fact that you’re out in the middle of nowhere and it’s quiet as hell. There for everything you do, everything you say is going to carry practically through the whole campground. Especially at night. Be respectful. Be a good human being. That’s the only real problem that I had was with some loud people and every time that the woman laughed it literally echoed through the whole campground. Very disrespectful people.

We enjoyed our stay and would definitely return! We had site #9 which was great because it was close to a vault toilet, potable water, and the creek (we fell asleep to the sound of its babbling). We could see other sites but felt we had enough space and privacy. The host John was also very helpful. It's true that there is near-constant helicopter noise on the weekend (we stayed during Labor Day) but it didn't bother us because we were out and about during the day.

This campground is very nice, with a talkative host. The only thing we didn’t like was the dog poop all over the site.

Nice campground with nice sites with most having plenty of space/privacy. We stayed at site 9 for 2 nights which is a nice site with a short path to the creek, is nicely shaded with a nice level tent spot. It is across from the pit toilets so expect some activity but with so few sites it's not too bad. The only other issue with this site is that it is close to the host site with a 8ft lighted palm tree that makes it very light through the tent walls, The site host is a unique character who runs the show. When we asked if he could turn off the lights after 10:00 pm and we were quickly told "NO". we ended up rigging an extra tarp on the tent to try to get it darker in the tent. We dis stay at site 10 for one night too. Ni ce site but still close to the bathroom. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.

Location is perfect for all your adventures throughout Black Hills, Custer State Park, and Mt Rushmore. Camp host was delightful and had a great deal on firewood, way cheaper than town. Our only two complaints were that there are helicopter tours flying all day long from about 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM. We weren't in camp much during the day for it to really bug us but the mornings and evenings were loud. Just a fair warning for those who may be triggered. Also the bathrooms are pit toilets.
