Shell Creek Campground is located in the Medicine Wheel Ranger District, Bighorn National Forest (2 hrs 51 min southeast of Billings, MT) with an elevation of 7,569 feet. There are a total of 14 campsites including 2 tent-only sites. The campground is normally open from the end of May to mid September. 12 sites can accommodate RVs and trailers between 30 and 75 feet. All sites are currently reservable. Reservations can be booked up to 6 months in advance. Prices start at $18.50 per night. Activities include biking, ohv trails nearby, fishing, hiking trails, rock climbing.

Great place to visit. Liked it better when the Forest Service ran it. The current hosts are nice enough but they block the gate when they close down. Liked it better when you were able to stay after season even though the water was turned off. Inwonder why they dont keep it open with a volunteer host after the concessionaires closing date.

This was an absolutely beautiful area in the Bighorn mountains. We didn't go anywhere because we needed a break from being on the road. We were content with sitting next to the river and hoping we'd spot a moose (which we did not). We did however see a young deer who hung out with us each day. The campground was secluded and the whole area was void of any crowds. I don't know why it hasn't been discovered yet?

We have returned to Shell Creek Campground eight years in a row, during June. It is small, and away from the main highway, so is usually quiet. However, on this year's visit, we were close to a big "coach" RV that liked to keep the generator on most of the day, and sometimes past 10PM, the time when all generators should be off. If they need so much power, why do they come to this campground? They should go to one with electric sites. We didn't even want to sit outside because their generator noise overpowered the soothing sound of the creek rushing past our site. Very disappointing!The rest rooms were very clean, and the campground was well-taken-care-of. Just hated listening to incessant generator noise.

We had an outstanding camping experience at Shell Creek. The campground hosts keep the campground in great shape. They were very friendly and accommodating making our stay so much more enjoyable.

Dale and Loretta were great.Dale going above what you would expect a camp host would do. The bathrooms were kept cleaned every day plus they had air freshener and sanitizer in them. I had several chats with Dale he even came by and let me know they had to leave due to a dr.appointment and wanted to say bye to use knowing we were leaving the next morning and hoping to see use again. Thanks to them plus the cleanliness of the campgrounds we hope to return in the future and to see them again.

Surprisingly beautiful! I couldnt imagine there were places in WY this beautiful. All campsites are along the stream. It was cold for June however waking up to a dusting of snow brought the wildlife through camp. We had deer and moose come through to the stream. Make sure to stop at Shell Creek Falls before going to camp. It is stunning!

It was beautiful and really enjoyed sitting by the creek. It would get very windy. The dirt flying around was blinding. Bathrooms were clean.I was a little concerned that even though we had reservations, our site said open. Luckily we didn't have to run anybody out. But when we were getting ready to leave, a car driving by wanted our site. I hope no one had it reserved.
