We enjoyed our stay at Cottonwood. Its a smaller campground in comparison to Rio Grande Village. Its a No Generator campground so it was quite and they have only vault toilets. However they were very clean and did not smell at all. The host was very nice and engaging.

The campground is a 45 minute drive from the main visitor center at Panther Junction, the closest place for gas, so plan ahead. The campsites have wonderful, flat, parking spaces. The campground has very sparse vegetation so that there isnt any privacy between the sites. Pit toilets only, but very well maintained and odor controlled. There is only 1 spigot for drinking water at the front of the campground which is a bit of a hike if you're at the back. They have FULL recycling-including paper. The campground is quiet and safe. The store at Castolon is very minimal. The best store is at Rio Grande campground. I would not want to be in this campground in hot weather because there isn't any shade. The Rio Grande river is close, but very low river levels-its more of a small, slow stream.

Cottonwood it's a small and quiet campground with beautiful views in the morning and at night. I like it because it is off the beaten path and more secluded, with a scenic drive to get to it.

Site was spacious and clean. Booked it last minute when somebody cancelled their reservation. Allowed more time to explore the west section of Big Bend specially the canyon and Rio Grande.

Amazing experience living for a few days in such a diverse and incredibly beautiful environment. The campground was quiet and peaceful. We met some very interesting people and will definitely return.

Lots of moving equipment and noise early in the morning. Takes away from the "camping" feel due to all the construction in and around the campground.

Lovely place. Quiet, calm, no generators.

Love Cottonwood Campground. It appears they have added some new sites to the campground. I hope they don't add too many, because I like it smaller - especially better than the Basin campground. It's too crowded there.

The quiet and remoteness of this campground was great. It's nice to have a small campground when visiting a national park. The proximity to Santa Elena Canyon is good too

Beautiful sunset that lit up the butte in orange and magenta. It was very cold and the spigot on our water jug was frozen in the morning. There was a clear sky at night but our neighbor had an outside light on. I asked them to turn it off, which they did. That allowed us to see the full canopy of stars which was spectacular. The host was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The campground has been refurbished since the fire so the campsites are level. It is close to the visitor center, very small store and historical buildings where some people can get cell service.

Nice quiet campground. No surprises. We tent camped, the parking pads are large enough to pitch up on the gravel, or you can pitch down on some grass. Stakes went in perfectly easy into the grass. Clean BBQ grill at a good height for traditional grilling or cooking with a hot dog stick.

Great, quiet site. I have stayed here on three separate trips to Big Bend and really enjoy how isolated it is.
