Nice little campground close to Santa Elena Canyon and Castolon. Very flat for camping. Lots of shade. Need to add showers, since it can get very hot there.

Large level dirt sites for our 24ft class B camper van but very dusty. There is no dump station and only limited water for drinking. We could not fill our water tank. The campground has lots of hiking opportunities near by and well worth the lack of amenities if you like hiking and are self-contained.

Campsites in the middle loop are too close, quiet hours not enforced. Toilets were clean and well maintained. Nearby camp store in Castolon was convenient.

Due to the reservation system I had to move my tent three times. Very inconvenient. The campground host would TALK with other campers for lengths outside tents of sleeping campers for long periods disregarding campers might want to sleep in. One time talking to a female Ranger in a running truck for 20 minutes, immediately next to several sleeping campers. You would think being in a natural area like BIBE that they would conserve fuel and shut down the vehicle while gabbing.

The campground host was friendly and knowledgable. Absolutley loved the Saint Elena Canyon hike. We were also given great tips for watching the sunset from an overlook. Very few people in the park, it was like you had it all to yourself.

Campground was nice and very clean. Staff checked several times a day. With the exception of some bad weather time at the campground was excellent. Would highly recommend visiting Big Bend NP.

Super clean restrooms, wonderful campground hosts who give you all sorts of interesting information and help with any directions you need. Well spaced out , level spots. Saw some "resident" great horned owls and other neat birds.

I enjoyed the campground but it wasn't very private. Hardly any trees remain which is sad. But it was clean and quiet
@KennyS305 · Camped on Nov 23, 2021 at Campsite #8
Campground was excellent. Several upgrades to sites and pit toilets were welcomed after the fire and Covid issues. Reservations experience was a disaster as I was mislead by Reservations.org website and personnel I talked with on the phone. I'll know next time how to play the system and get the dates and spaces I want. 5 campsites were not occupied the night of our stay, yet they showed to be booked weeks in advance. Not fair.

The rec.gov site sucks. We had to move every night into different campsites and yet there were people who didn’t show up and there seems to be no way fir the camp hosts to release sites theist were left unoccupied.

So many birds around camp, and lots of places to hike nearby. We really enjoyed our stay here!

I was disappointed to see that this campsite is operating at only 50% due to the covid-19 virus. This is a small campsite with campsites that are well spaced. There is no reason for the limited capacity.My stay there was pleasant.

We were there the first day of opening for two nights. Cottonwood is awesome - been there many times in our younger days. A squadron of javelinas came into a vacant area of the campground right across from us for 10 to 15 minutes. Tiny baby to big papa. Owls during the day, serenades by coyotes at night, a number of beautiful birds, up close visits by the ever friendly roadrunners. The Rangers were very non-intrusive but came by several times to inform us and make sure everything was going OK in the campground. An overall wonderful experience.
