wonderful place to unplug and relax. grandkids played in creek, learned to start campfire, and enjoy time as family. we have came several times and will continue to use this site and enjoy the tranquility.

The Douglass Creek Cabin remains a wonderful, quaint retreat, and my third stay there was as charming and quiet as ever. The proximity of the fire ring to the creek is a feature I particularly enjoy, and the deep snow during my mid-March visit made the experience even more special. While the cabin is clean and well-stocked, the bunk beds are a bit too springy for my liking because they lack the support boards found in most other cabins. I highly recommend this lovely retreat to anyone seeking a peaceful and scenic getaway.

We drove in ~3 mi before we were worried about getting stuck in our SUV and hiked the rest of the way in. Snowshoes would have been nice for the last mile and to explore above the cabin, but not absolutely necessary. We did see 1 truck that made it all the way to the Y junction. The cabin was very clean and well stocked! The stove kept the cabin very warm and there was plenty of firewood! We loved our night in this cabin.

Was in for one night in January and it was wonderful! Lots of opportunities to ski around and see good mountains. Cabin was fully stocked with firewood and stove and a fantastic eagle mug - all you can ask for really. Would absolutely stay here again.

This is one of the better maintained cabins Ive been to! There is one battery powered light but it was nice to have an extra lantern to light the space better. The road was drivable in December- I was able to drive my AWD vehicle with snow tires all the way up. The hill above the cabin would have been fun skiing (cross country) with about 2 feet of snow minimum- as it was we had a lovely afternoon skiing up the road instead.

So great for winter! The road is easily drivable as long as you have good snow tires and the snow isnt waist deep- pretty flat topographically. The bunk beds are actually quite comfortable and the outhouse is clean. Well stocked kitchen wares. The little creek running next to it is beautiful. Life long Montanan and thankful for gems like these. Wish the price hadnt doubled on all forest service cabins recently because its harder for locals to afford but at least it seemed well maintained (and compared to air b&bs theres a clear winner as long as you dont mind roughing it a little bit.)

What a perfect spot to get away in a nice and clean one-room cabin. There is a peaceful mountain stream next to the cabin, and great for kids to explore and play. The outdoor fire pit is ready for a cozy fire with four bench seats. The pit toilet is convenient and not too close but not too far away. There were cows in the area but fenced off from the cabin. If you use GPS to take you to the cabin, I highly recommend you take the southern approach. The northern approach takes you through numerous cattle grates, farm gates, and barbed wire gates and requires a high-clearance vehicle.
I love this cabin and will definitely be back.

This was our first time to Douglas Creek Cabin and we loved it! We parked at the small pullout about 1.5 mi away as snow was predicted overnight and there was also still a bit of snow and ice on the road. It was really nice to have the creek nearby, and the cabin was so cute! We went for a small hike up the hill, and you are able to stay on public land and get to a nice view. We definitely look forward to returning! We appreciated the amenities, including the cleaning wipes someone had left, and the nice big cast iron pan for cooking on the stove—note, there is only a small pot so bring your own large one if you plan on making a big thing of soup, etc.
What we did not appreciate is whoever stayed at the cabin before us—there was a FULL black trash bag left outside on the porch (with food items inside including dog kibble), beer cans littered around the ‘yard’ and also burned beer cans left in the ash can and wood stove inside, and dirty dishes crusted with food left on the counter inside, and the windows had been left open. We did our best to clean up the mess and packed out all the garbage. Despite this, no mouse issues on our visit!

GUYS LISTEN. Respect the roads.
We had gotten to the cabin in our 2011 Hyundai Sante Fe with AWD locked in ONLY with the kindness of the snowmobiles ahead of us. Guys if you're thinking you're gonna be some "cool guy" and make it there with no drama - you're wrong. We were lucky enough to get locked into snowmobile tracks and flooring it in AWD we eventually got to the wonderful cabin but had to leave at 3am because we didn't want to get snowed in. Take heed of warning and book late as this is a deep forest cabin. Wait till April. Although we enjoyed the adventure, if you can't single-handedly push a vehicle out of a 4 inch deep hole in the snow created by recent snow or over the 2 foot deep cattle guards. When you're walking on ice you might as well dance.

Stayed 3/12/22. We were able to drive our SUV all the way in with snow tires and chains. Cabin was clean and well-stocked. Plenty of wood and the fireplace was warm.

A wonderful stay at the Douglas Creek Cabin. We were able to park at the Y and only had to ski in 1.5 miles. There was a well stocked kitchen with dishes, utensils, pots and pans (all in very good condition). There were even brand new cleaning rags (which we did not use because we brought our own). The previous renters had cleaned the cabin well and left us with a good stash of wood. Thank you to the Pintler Ranger District for a well maintained cabin. We will come again!

We had a great mid-February winter trip to Douglas Creek Cabin. We were able to drive in pretty far on the road about a mile and a half out from the cabin; our ski in was icy but not too bad. Highly recommend taking a trip up forest road 707 to Dunkleberg Ridge, the ridge offers great views and an overlook.

It was very snowy and icy the day we skied in and we skied about 6 miles to the cabin. The cabin itself was clean and stocked with everything we needed. We so enjoyed being away from the hustle and bustle and nestled in the snowy mountains. We would highly recommend.

Went to the cabin in mid-January. I had to chain my truck up and could only get within one and a half miles due to snow. Used snowshoes to hike the remaining distance. The cabin was very clean and cozy. There was plenty of wood to get people through the winter. Didn't have service with Verizon wireless. I'm hoping to return again sometime in the summer.
