We have used this yurt every year since 2016, and have never been disappointed. The Forest Service does a great job maintaining the yurt, the surrounding area, and the vault toilet. We do wish that some of the users would be more mindful of those coming afterwards. This year, I had to clean trash out of the outdoor fire pit before we could use it. Then, on the second morning, when it was raining, decided to make an indoor fire in the wood stove and found it full of trash and ashes. I tried to burn the trash, but when I cleaned the ashes I had to pick out several pieces of foil. Is it such a burden to take a trash bag with you and carry out your trash? Pack it in, Pack it out!!!

We were in the area elk hunting so the location was very convenient. The facility itself was clean and provided everything we needed.

This yurt is fantastic. The area is great and they have thought of many things inside that were needed. Clean and windows are great.
Mosquitoes were in full force this time around.

We had a great time at the Carter Military Yurt. It has one queen sized bunk bed, it is very well maintained and it is wheelchair accessible. The yurt also has several windows, which is great and unusual for a yurt.

Since Covid there is a lack of ANY cookware etc...up there. Which is okay for now if you’re prepared to bring EVERYTHING up with you. There’s a wonderful triple gas cooktop and there was some soap. Lacked TP in the bathroom facility as well.
It was beautiful! Buggy so bring spray, but beautiful area!

Wonderful spot. Very clean. In great shape. We appreciate the care the Forest Service has taken to keep this in tip top condition. The propane cooking burners were fantastic. The weather was mild enough and our down comforter cozy so no need for a fire. Lots of firewood on the deck chopped and ready to use in what looks like a great wood stove. Beds were comfortable. Quiet location. A new firepit area was spectacular. Very few passing cars or atvs. One group came by and parked behind our car. Our dog barked. The family roamed all around the yurt. I finally stepped out of the yurt and asked if I could help and the woman in the group responded "oh, didn't know anyone was here." They were obviously looking for free cut firewood. They pulled up the road not out of sight, and pulled out a chain saw. That was our only interruption in our solitude. We hiked the Carter Military Trail. Another unnamed trail across the road and meadow. Also biked the forest service roads for hours. It's a great site! We hope all users enjoy and respect this wonderful location. It was an unexpected gem.
