Beautiful campground. Friendly staff. A welcome sanctuary from the madness on Mount Desert Island. The bike riding around the peninsula was also outstanding.

My pull through site was LONG, level, and private. The park and the whole of the Shodic peninsula was a joy to experience. We drove to Desert Island, and parked at the visitor center. The local trolley buses take you wherever you need to go.

Mid-September, the campground is quiet. B Loop seems a better option for privacy and distance to your neighbor. This loop, the sites are all pull-through with a good deal of visual privacy. We were in B-17 and the pad was relativity level. Short distance to washroom, but too far for the reported campground Wi-Fi. While the restrooms were clean, they do not have a shower. Staff is spare with limited hours at registration. There are hiking and bike trails here on the mainland portion of Acadia National Park. The Island Express is also available for hikes and sites throughout Mount Desert Island. We found the free shuttle service to be on time and accommodating.

We really liked the Schoodic campground. The sites were nicely spaced and the whole campground was very quiet. The Island Explorer bus and the ferry to Bar Harbor were very convenient and well run. We were there in early September and would love to come back.

The campground is clean and quiet, sites are big, and the scenery is gorgeous. Staff is friendly, and helpful and they had a setup for visitor info that was great. Yes, it is an hour drive to the main area of ANP, but the ride was easy, and never seemed long. We managed to book a sunrise res on Cadillac MT, and saw the most beautiful sky. Interestingly, the sky was really prettier about an hour before until the sunrise. We arrived at 440 for 550 sunrise, (so 3am wake up, 0330 departure from camp) and waited comfortably for the rise. There were many people there, but it didnt seem cramped. We also hiked a couple of mountain trails that afforded us magnificent views below. Gorham Mt. trail was moderate and well worth the trek, ladder trail on Dorr Mt. was a little strenuous for us, we didnt realize it was one of more difficult trails, and we turned back when we got to the rungs fixed into the rock to proceed higher. Still the 5million(exaggeration) rock steps were an incredible workout but more than we had anticipated at the start of the walk.We went over to the west of the island when we were unable to get a parking spot at Jordan Pond on Saturday afternoon because It was packed with people. We ended up having a quiet lunch at Thurstons Lobster that was delish, and seeing some quiet, small town feel shops and roadside bakery sheds that were honor system for the cookies and jams that we purchased. Acadia did not disappoint and we had 5 full days, and couldve spent many more to see all there is to see there.

Schoodic Woods was by far the nicest campground Ive ever visited. Very clean, large/private campsites, and helpful park rangers. I would recommend getting a site near one of the bath houses where WiFi is available. The AT&T network signal was very weak so I made a lot of trips to the picnic table behind the bathhouse when I needed to access the outside world. Favorite places to visit included the Winter Harbor Lobster Co-op and Me & Bens Ice Cream in Birch Harbor. A very peaceful end to our Maine adventure after having been in the MDI crowds the week before.

Absolutely beautiful campground with big spots, clean restrooms and nice ranger programs. If you want to get away from the crowds in the other part of Acadia visit Schoodic, it is beautiful! The shuttle bus is a great tool because you can just park and ride that everywhere.
