We stayed at site 025 on 8/13 on our way through Colorado on a cross country roadtrip. The sites were close together and lacked privacy, but we felt safe as two young women. The area is beautiful and I would love to camp here again, although would probably try to find a more private site/one better suited to tent camping. There is no tent pad and we had a difficult time getting our stakes in the ground. The shower facilities are free, warm, large, and clean which was a wonderful surprise and is much more than I could say about most campground showers we used on this trip.

The excellent host, "Fish", was VERY helpful with our mixed up reservation. He was also a pleasure to talk with...especially, about Antartica. He, along with the other hosts really made our stay at Matterhorn!

Matterhorn is a wonderful place for us. We love the high country and the quiet lushness of the forest. The campground has been our favorite for almost 20 years. It is much busier now that in years past, and being successful getting a reservation online is tricky. The campground hosts were relaxed and just engaged enough to make it successful.

What can I say, showed up for our 5 night reservation only to find they have no water, could not pass safety testing. We could not stay, there was nothing on Rec.gov to warn you about this. We are still waiting for a refund which we were told we would get. Camp host left a lot to be desired. Told us wrong information and when we went back there one host was off duty and the other decided to just take off for a while with her partner leaving a not. BAD MANAGEMENT.

Most beautiful scenery and hiking and biking located nearby with great facilities. Other than rain every day, a perfect camping week!

This is a great campground for tent or trailer camping. We brought a tent and picked Site 25. Would not recommend that site for a tent -- there is very little shade and no tent pad. The walk-in sites are ideal for tents and have great mountain views. Other good tent sites would be 16-19. Toilets were all clean. Camp has flush toilets and a pit toilet closer to the walk-in sites. Hot water and showers also available. Great location for hiking (the Galloping Goose trail can be accessed from the campground, or for a flatter walk, there is a gravel road right up that same path that has a couple nice views). Camp hosts were also very friendly.
